Is All Cookie Dough Freezer Friendly?

Not all type of cookie are freezer friendly. Only sturdy cookie dough is best for freezing. We always have chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies and oatmeal raisin cookie dough in the freezer. These batch of cookies store great and taste just like you prepared the dough.

We also love freezing gingerbread cookies and shortbread cookies especially in preparation for the holidays.

Delicate Cookies with a thinner dough such as meringue cookies do not freeze as well. They do not hold up after thawing out.

How to Freeze Cookie Dough

Step 1 – Mix your cookie dough like you normally would.

Step 2 – Roll into balls and place on a cookie sheet. You may want to flatten them out some if you want. Make sure the cookies are not touching and place into the freezer. Allow to freeze for about an hour.

Step 3 – Then Place into a freezer bag. Make sure you label your bag with the kind of cookies and the baking instructions.

Step 4 – Flash Freezing cookie dough allows you to take out the amount you need.

How to Bake Frozen Cookie Dough

When you are ready to serve, drop cookie dough on a lined baking sheet. Baking time will vary depending on the kind of cookie dough and size.

• Step 1 – Place the amount of drop cookies you want on a cookie sheet.
• Step 2 – Preheat oven to the amount on your directions.
• Step 3 – Bake. That is it (in general you will need to add 2 minutes to your cooking time when they are frozen)

How to Freeze Baked Cookies:

If you have made to much cookies, then we recommend freezing the cookies to enjoy at another occasion.

• Step 1 – Once the cookies have cooled to room temperature then they are ready to store.
• Step 2 – Place the cookies on a baking sheet and flash freeze for about 30 minutes.
• Step 3 – Then place the baked cookies in a freezer safe container. Layer the cookies with a parchment paper or wax paper in a single layer to prevent the cookies from breaking.

Recipe Tips

• Zip Lock Bags – If you store the cookie dough in a zip lock bag, make sure to squeeze as much air out as possible. This helps to prevent freeze burns.
• Freezing Cutout Cookies – If you have prepared cut out cookie dough, then place them on a baking sheet layered with parchment paper in-between the layers. Allow them to freeze for about an hour covered with plastic wrap then place in a freezer safe airtight container.
• Cooled Completely – Before freezing the freshly baked cookie recipe, make sure they have cooled completely.
• Slice and Bake – You can also freeze slice and bake cookies. Wrap the dough log in plastic wrap then freeze.
