Review: AirFly Pro 2 can give new life to your old kit (2025)

The adaptor is targeted at the frequent traveller - but it's so much more than that

One of my favourite little products I have ever tested is back with a new, improved version that promises to make what worked even better without meddling with any of the features that made it stand out in the first place.

Twelve South's AirFly Pro 2, like the original, is a Bluetooth adaptor targeted at the frequent traveller - but it's so much more than that.

The little gizmo allows AirPods or other wireless headphones to be used in situations where only wired headphone jacks are available i.e. the in-flight entertainment system on a plane.

The original worked flawlessly but as someone who doesn't get out much I found the Airfly was also great at breathing new life into older tech by dragging it into the modern world.

Got an old iPod you yearn to be wireless? Wherever you have a 3.5mm audio jack, the AirFly can make it so.

Even better, the AirFly can also receive as well as transmit, meaning you can attach them to, say, a wired speaker system and pump audio out of your paired device.

Those with older media players including turntables, portable cassette players and TVs can use AirFly Pro 2 to connect wireless headphones, speakers and soundbars.

Another situation is connecting your own headphones to treadmills, exercise bikes and other equipment.

So all this has remained the same, so what's different this time around? Well, a few things. You now get dedicated pairing buttons which makes it even easier to pair with two headphones from the same device.

Audio quality has also been upped. With Bluetooth it's forever a battle between qualkity and convenience, and here they've reached a nice balance.

And all this comes with even better battery life - up from 16 to more than 25 hours on a single charge. You also get a snazzy litttle travel bag thrown in (previously the domain of the deluxe models).

All in all. I loved it then and I love it now.
