Mangoceuticals, a telehealth company, has partnered with pharmaceutical giants Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk to sell their blockbuster weight-loss drugs to self-paying patients. This partnership comes as a relief to patients who have been struggling with the high costs of these drugs. The drugs in question are Zepbound, made by Lilly, and Wegovy, produced by Novo Nordisk. Both medications were previously in short supply in the U.S., leading to high prices and a lack of accessibility for many. However, due to U.S. regulations allowing compounding pharmacies to create cheaper versions of brand-name medicines, several telehealth companies, including Mangoceuticals, were able to offer more affordable alternatives. This led to a lawsuit filed by Lilly against Mangoceuticals for selling products claiming to contain tirzepatide, the main ingredient in Zepbound. The lawsuit prompted Mangoceuticals to evaluate strategic alternatives. Now, with the partnership, Mangoceuticals can continue selling Zepbound and Wegovy, and the prices are expected to be significantly reduced, saving patients between $149 and $350 per month. This reduction is a result of a recent White House deal to cut the prices of weight-loss drugs, making them more accessible to those who need them. Both drugmakers have also partnered with other telehealth platforms, but Novo's collaboration with Hims & Hers Health ended due to concerns about compounding and promotional practices. This partnership is a significant step towards making weight-loss drugs more affordable and accessible to those who need them.
