Get ready for a wild ride as we dive into the world of Journey, the iconic rock band that has kept us grooving for decades! But here's a twist: a recent social media storm left fans wondering if the band's keyboardist-guitarist, Jonathan Cain, was bidding farewell.
It all started with a tweet from Neal Schon, the lead guitarist, suggesting Cain had quit. However, both a spokesperson and Schon quickly clarified that Cain is very much still an integral part of Journey.
In his initial tweet, Schon wrote, "Jonathan Cain announced his farewell to Journey tonight. I'm nowhere near done! Journey has so much more life ahead! I'm sure we will have a great tour!" He then added, "He wants to do his ministry."
But here's where it gets controversial... A spokesperson for Cain stepped in, stating, "Jonathan Cain remains an active member of Journey, and any reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate. He is fully dedicated to touring with the band over the next couple of years and has only expressed plans to retire at a later time."
Schon later clarified, "Jon is playing. He's saying at the end of 26-27 he will move on. We will have a great couple of years."
So, what's the deal? Well, Cain and Schon are the last remaining classic members of Journey, a band that has seen its fair share of lineup changes. Drummer Deen Castronovo has been in and out since 1998, while singer Arnel Pineda joined in 2007. More recently, keyboardist Jason Derlatka and bassist Todd Jensen replaced Ross Valory and Steve Smith.
And this is the part most people miss... Cain and Schon had a legal dispute over the band's finances while still bandmates, which was finally settled in 2024.
Cain has recently been in the spotlight for his new single, "No One Else," a tribute to the late right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, set for release on October 24th. He also serves as a worship leader at Florida's City of Destiny church, previously led by his pastor wife, Paula White-Cain, who was appointed by President Trump to lead the White House Faith Office.
So, is Cain really leaving Journey? The band assures us he's here to stay for now, but the future is uncertain. What do you think? Will Journey continue to rock on with Cain, or is this the beginning of a new chapter? Let us know in the comments!
