Essential Oil Pain Relief Recipes - Organic Palace Queen (2024)

Essential Oil Pain Relief Recipes - Organic Palace Queen (1)I’ve lived with chronic pain for more than a decade. At one time, it was so bad I could barely walk.

Most of my time was spent on the couch. Even then, the pain was excruciating. I couldn’t get comfortable, no matter what I did or which way I moved. Needless to say, this was one of the most challenging times of my life.

My children were still young. But I couldn’t take care of them. So they and my husband did the housework and prepared the meals.

During this time, I also met another mother at one of my son’s baseball games. She was obviously disabled. Her story scared me. Stricken with arthritis, she took OTC pain relievers for relief. Until she developed a life-threatening reaction called Stevens-Johnson syndrome. She nearly lost her life.

She also carried with her a permanent reminder of what happened. Her skin was a very unnatural looking shade of white, a result of it blistering during this reaction.

That encounter made me decide, once and for all, never to use over-the-counter pain medications again. Plus, I had severe, widespread nerve pain. So OTC didn’t even begin to touch that pain. For the little (if any) relief they offered, I didn’t want to live with the potential side effects.

Right now, you won’t find over-the-counter pain remedies in my house. I threw them all way. I didn’t feel the need to replace them.

Instead, I decided to treat my inflammation from the inside out. This required a drastic diet change. No more wheat, dairy or junk food.

I also drink herbal tea and take various natural herbal anti-inflammatory supplements. (Not every day. But a few times a week.) My breakthrough pain is relatively mild. But, when it hits, I use essential oils. One of my favorite essential oil singles is copaiba oil. I’ll tell you how to use this in some of the recipes I’m going to share with you.

Essential Oil Recipes for Chronic Pain

Nearly every major essential oil company now has one or more pain relief formulas. These contain multiple oils. I’ve used a number of them. These are the type of pain relievers I always have in the house.

Even though I own a number of essential oil blends, including Plant Therapy Rapid Relief and Natures Fusions Cooling Waters Anti-Inflammatory blend, I like to make my own pain relief recipes. That’s because the way my body works. I need to constantly rotate my recipes so they keep working. Otherwise, I won’t get the relief I need. Making my own recipes offer more variety.

For instance, if I use one type of single oil, or a blend, for three days in a row, it may not work the fourth day. (After a short break, it will again.) So, meanwhile, I need to use something else, such as copaiba essential oil.

Fortunately, there are endless combinations of essential oil recipes. (For me, even minor changes can make a difference.) So it’s possible to always try something new, if I use various recipes.)

Essential Oils for Chronic Pain Recipes

One of my favorite aromatic pain relievers is copaiba essential oil. This comes from a tree that grows in South America. Copaiba is widely available, so it shouldn’t cost that much. (If it does, look for another reputable brand. It’s not true that you need to use multilevel marketing labels in order to get a quality product.)

It’s believed that copaiba essential oil contains powerful natural anti-inflammatory compounds. This is what makes it a potentially effective pain reliever. Although I can’t promise that any essential oil will help your pain, I can share with you how I use essential oils in my own life.

Here’s a simple recipe using copaiba essential oil.

1 teaspoon of fractionated coconut oil (You can get it here)

1 drop of copaiba essential oil (You can get it here)

1 drop of frankincense essential oil (You can get it here)

1 drop of lavender essential oil (You can get it here)

Mix the above ingredients together and apply where needed. If there’s any left over, store in a covered glass jar away from light and heat. Don’t put this in plastic. Aromatic oils are volatile, and they will degrade the plastic.

Essential Oil Recipes for Pain Relief

Another ingredient typically found in pain relief recipes is peppermint essential oil. This is my go-to headache remedy. It works so well for me, even alone. I don’t have it mix it with anything, except a carrier oil, before I put it on my forehead and temples.

I’m always amazed at how quickly I begin to feel better. Peppermint essential oil is also good for muscle aches and any other mild to moderate pain. It’s a really versatile oil, and it blends well with other aromatics, such as lavender essential oil. Here’s a really easy pain relief recipe that includes peppermint essential oil.

1 teaspoon of carrier oil, such as fractionated coconut oil (You can get it here)

1 drop of peppermint essential oil (You can get it here)

1 drop of lavender essential oil (You can get it here)

1 drop of eucalyptus essential oil (You can get it here)

Mix these ingredients together and use where needed. (Make sure this recipe doesn’t get near your eyes. Do not ingest these oils. Essential oils should never be ingested unless working with a skilled medical professional. Some of them, including eucalyptus oil are highly toxic when ingested.)

Essential Oil Recipes for Fibromyalgia

I’ve been living with chronic pain for years. I’m amazed at how many other people are fighting the same battle. Even teenagers now complain of fibromyalgia-like symptoms. My heart goes out to them.

Anyway, I can’t complain.Especially when I look around. Others are suffering so much more.

My pain level is now tolerable, especially compared to how it used to be. One of the remedies in my natural pain arsenal has been myrrh essential oil. This combines very well with frankincense essential oil. (Somehow that’s not surprising.) These two aromatics also blend well with lavender essential oil. So I’m adding lavender oil to this recipe because it has a soothing quality.

1 drop of carrier oil (You can find it here)

1 drop of myrrh essential oil (You can find it here)

1 drop of frankincense essential oil (You can find it here)

1 drop of lavender essential oil (You can find it here)

Mix these together and apply as necessary. Some of the oils in this recipe, such as the blue tansy and helichrysum are precious. This means they’re more expensive than oils that are more widely available. Another option is to buy a blend that contain them both. The one I use is Natures Fusions Cooling Waters Anti-Inflammatory formula.

Essential Oil Recipes for Pain Relief

For myself, I see best results when I mix my essential oils up. Sometimes, I switch then so often that I use two different recipes in one day. Not only does this seem to be more effective. It’s also possible that it may prevent sensitization to a particular oil. This is another good reason to rotate your oils.

Although sensitization is probably rare, nothing is rare when it happens to you. Another way to protect yourself from this happening is to use the proper dilution ratios. Everything you see on this page is 2 percent, which is considered appropriate for a healthy adult. Children and the elderly should use a 1 percent dilution. So, here’s another pain relief recipe, to add some variety.

2 teaspoons of fractionated coconut oil (You can find it here)

1 drop of peppermint essential oil (You can find it here)

1 drop of wintergreen essential oil (You can find it here)

1 drop of lavender essential oil (You can find it here)

1 drop of helichrysum essential oil (You can find it here)

2 drops of blue tansy essential oil (You can find it here)

Mix the above ingredients and use as needed.

Pain Relief Essential Oil Blend Recipe

One of the newest additions to my essential oil collection is elemi essential oil. This is derived from a tree that grows in the Philippines and it’s believed to have natural analgesic properties. It smells a little like frankincense. Since it’s so compatible, you can mix the two, and add a little bit of lavender essential oil.

So here’s a recipe using elemi, frankincense and lavender essential oils.

1 teaspoon of fractionated coconut oil (You can get it here)

1 drop of elemi essential oil (You can get it here)

1 drop of frankincense essential oil (You can get it here)

1 drop of lavender essential oil (You can get it here)

Mix these ingredients together and apply it to the parts of your body that need natural pain relief. A variation on this recipe is adding 3 drops of copaiba essential oil. If you do that, make sure to double the fractionated coconut oil to stay at a 2 percent dilution.
