What is a vision board?
A vision board is a collage of images and words used as visual representation of your goals and dreams.
The whole idea behind a vision board and why it’s so powerful is that it serves as a reminder of WHY you do what you do every day! Visualization techniques have been used by therapists for years to boost happiness, enhance performance, and help people achieve their goals.
Vision boards work best when placed in a prominent place you’ll look at frequently. This could be your bedroom, your office space, your living room, or wherever you feel it would inspire you the most.
What should be on a vision board to make it effective?
Vision boards are so open to your own creative decisions, so no rules here! Be sure to include whatever inspires you, lifts you up, or helps you manifest your goals.
But if you’re looking for specific ideas to include when planning out your vision board, consider…
- Personal goals
- Professional goals
- Success
- Relationships and family
- Home
- Travel
- Spirituality
- Social life
- Health and wellness
You can make your vision board practice so much more effective when you identify your goal categories first. The more specific you map out what your vision board will contain, the better it will resonate–resulting in a higher likelihood of meeting your goals.
Once you’re crystal clear on your goals for 2024, you can bring them to life by printing photos to match. Bring all these photos together and bam! You got your vision board!

1. My own vision board
First up, have a peek at my vision board! I consider it a Pinterest masterpiece, with mainly pics from there (except my adorable guinea pigs—they’re mine!). Pinterest is my go-to for photo inspo.
So, what’s on my board? Travel dreams, nature escapes, yummy food, aesthetic views, cute proposals, and that “girlboss” vibe. This represents all my loves and dreams for 2024 and beyond.
This is also sitting in a prime location: my home office that I use daily! Be sure to hang yours in an often-visited area as well.

This is a great way to take the simple approach! Think about a big goal or a personal growth thing you’re working on. Then grab some quotes or affirmations that will inspire you to chase those dreams!

4. Aesthetic vision board
This is a good example of what I tried to mirror my own vision board to look like in #1, and I love the look! What NOT to Put on a Vision Board?
The goal for your vision board is to gain clarity on what you’re trying to achieve. But if you’re feeling more confusion than clarity, it might be because of a few things…
Here’s what not to do with your vision board:
- Don’t over-clutter – the last thing you want for your vision board is a feeling of overwhelm when you look at it! Less is more. Stick to the photos that best represent your goals.
- Don’t over-complicate the process – don’t overthink your photos, scouring for hours to find the perfect, most aesthetic arrangement of images. Simply pick what piques your interest. You can always swap the photos out later!
- Don’t “set it and forget it” – the whole point of your vision board is to motivate you to stay on track. Your vision board isn’t just a set of pretty pictures to look at. Use it as fuel to put your dreams into action and make it happen!
